Suitable for KS2 and KS3 classes. The lesson highlights how pupils can vary their sentence openings to engage their readers. Pupils assess the effect of a series of sentence openers, they then break down the differences between the sentence openings, before creating their own story using a stimuli, which has built up from previous activities. A fast-paced lesson with varied activities.

A full lesson detailing to pupils how to identify the features of a leaflet (linguistic and format) and recreate these in a writing task, based on the Edexcel English Language exam. The main activity consists of a pupil led analysis of two leaflets (designed to cover a small range of language and structural features) and finally the plenary consists of a peer assessment task (worksheet for this is attached).
